Gym Kids Weekly Skill Focus
Next week in Gym Kids, we’re building the foundations for big skills across beam, bars, vault, and floor.
Gymnastics is a progression-based sport, which means the shapes and techniques taught in Gym Kids classes continue to support our gymnasts as they advance.
Each drill is designed to break complex skills into smaller, achievable steps. This helps gymnastics build confidence, improve technique, and stay safe while learning.
Here are a few of the activities you might see in our Gym Kids classes next week:
Beam Focus: Front Support Mount and Walks
This week, Gym Kids will be working on balance and coordination on beam. These drills help gymnasts stay focused, steady, and confident while moving along the beam.
Roll Ball Along Beam
Drill: Gymnasts roll a ball along the beam whilst walking.
Focus
Maintaining balance while multitasking with controlled upper body movement.
Builds
✅ Full body coordination
✅ Focus and concentration
✅ Core and posture control while balancing
Bars Focus: Front Support and Casts
This week, gymnasts are learning how to cast and hold front-support on the bar.
Standing Jump to Front Support
Drill: Gymnasts stand on a block and jump up to land in front-support on the bar.
Focus
Learning how to mount the bar with strength and control from a static position.
Builds
✅ Leg power and body tension
✅ Straight-arm support and shoulder strength
✅ Timing and coordination
Vault Focus: Hurdle and Jump
This week on vault, Gym Kids are learning how to use a hurdle step. This is the key movement that links a run-up to the take-off on the springboard.
Hurdle to Two Feet in Hoop
Drill: Gymnasts start on one foot, jump onto the springboard with two feet, then land in a hoop on the floor.
Focus
Practising the hurdle motion that prepares gymnasts to vault.
Builds
✅ Coordination between running and jumping
✅ Leg power and timing
Floor Focus: Handstands and Cartwheels
This week, gymnasts are working on handstand and cartwheel entries. These drills build strength, control, and body awareness to help gymnasts approach skills safely and with confidence.
T-shape Bean Bag to Box
Drill: Gymnasts start in a lunge, reach forward into a T-shape, and place a bean bag on the box without lifting their back foot.
Focus
Learning the correct body shape and control when entering a handstand.
Builds
✅ Shoulder and core engagement
✅ Straight body line from fingers to back foot
✅ Controlled forward weight shift
